New Photobucket Image Search
September 8, 2008
We added Photobucket to the search for background images! Go check it out!
- TIP: If an image is less than 200px by 200px, it will not be stretched out to fit the screen. You can go in step 3. More Options and choose Repeat: “BOTH” and you will see the image tiled over the whole screen. You should try this option if you click on an image and nothing seems to happen. It’s probably so small you can’t even see it until you have it tiled.
I’ve already made lots of layouts using the Photobucket search!
We hope you love it too! Thanks photobucket! YOU ROCK!
Bringing Sexy Back
August 27, 2008
Yup, that’s right, the auto embed is BACK! MySpace lifted the blocking of sites that do off site authentication (aka asking for people’s MySpace username and password) until they come up with their own tool! This is great news as we really realized that people loved the auto embed feature from our previous post. Now we have BOTH the auto embed AND codes!
The only thing still different from the auto embed we had before is that you need to do it twice for the profile and the blog. But that’s still much less work than doing it manually, right guys?
I hope you guys enjoy updating your layouts again!

Che Che Che Changes!
August 20, 2008
Hi CoolChasers! As some of you may have noticed, we are no longer asking for MySpace passwords and just giving out codes instead of offering the auto insert functionality. Old users, just login as usual and you should be able to see all your layouts & theme history. You can also change your password to anything you like. New users, you can just create an account with CoolChaser and store all your layouts and themes for future use.
So what’s up with the change? Remember when we said we wanted to make it as easy as possible to update MySpace layouts? Personally, I had so much trouble doing it because I just didn’t know where to paste the code on MySpace which I blogged about long time ago and realized there were so many other people with the same problem. We were kinda inspired by Slide, and thought it was really cool that they can do an auto insert to update profiles so we tried it out ourselves. It was such a big difference! To update the profile AND blog layout was a snap, against the old fashion of way of copying and pasting codes which took much more clicking and time (only one click vs 20 clicks… I’m not exaggerating!)
So why show codes now? Yeah yeah, I’m getting there!
In order to do this cool instant update profile thing, we needed to ask for people’s MySpace user name and password. Most of the people were happy but some people were concerned which we totally understood! So we blogged about how we don’t store passowrds, also wrote on the help page that we are totally a safe site, and our loyal users were so helpful in explaining to new users that we are totally a safe site too on the forum - we love you guys! xoxoxo
However, no matter how hard we explained, some people still frowned upon the fact that we ask for MySpace passwords - all of them who never tried our site thou LOL And MySpace was of course, one of them and we heard from some sources that MySpace was going to block all the sites that do that. They are suffering so much from phishing sites out there so we understand their position too.
This is some good news: people who are hesitant to use our site can thoroughly enjoy it now, and to tell you the truth, it is also a bit of a relief that we don’t have to explain how safe our site is. For those who miss the auto insert feature, we want to work with MySpace to come up with a safe and easy-to-use tool. Please contact MySpace to tell them you love CoolChaser, so they will work with us!
Let us know if you have any questions, or any feedback to the new system is greatly appreciated!

Background not showing? (update: fixed)
July 20, 2008
Update: As of July 5pm PDT, Amazon reports this is now fixed. Please let us know if your backgrounds are still now showing.
We are using Amazon S3 to store some of our backgrounds. Unfortunately, this external service is down right now, but they should be back up within hours. This should only affect a small number of images (especially newly uploaded images).
You can check:
for the latest updates. Thanks for your patience!

June 17, 2008
Congrats Mozilla on releasing Firefox 3! Join millions of others and get yours today free! We couldn’t have developed CoolChaser, ClipClip nor Url.com without Firefox and we’re sure glad they’re continuing to lead the way in cool new features.
Mac users, the disappearing flash widgets bug is finally fixed. That’s another reason to upgrade ![]()
Add to Favorites!
June 15, 2008
Howdy CoolChasers! We just launched a long awaited feature that lets you save themes into your “my favorite” themes so you can access them later on! We literally have thousands of themes, and finding a theme that you liked before was literally impossible!
It’s pretty self explanatory, but let me show you how to add themes to your favorites!
1) First make sure you are logged in
(first time users, you have to create a layout first with us and then you will be logged in automatically)
2) If you see a theme that you like, you can either just use it right away, OR you can save it to your favorites for later use! I found this cool Metal Gear Solid 4 layout.

Not sure if I want to use it yet, so gonna save it to my favorites by clicking the “Add to Favorites” link on the “About this theme” box.

3) You can access what you saved in “My themes” tab.

That’s it! Isn’t that cool? This way, you can save bunch of them in there and make your final decision without flipping through many many pages to find the ones your liked before.
We are hoping to show more relevant results to “popular themes” by incorporating how many people marked a certain theme as their favorites also.
There could be some bugs, so let us know if you see things acting weird. Hope you enjoy!
Is My Background a Copyright?
May 27, 2008
Here’s a great tip for using Coolchaser.com to find an awesome background for your MySpace profile! Not all images on the internet are free. So when we make our layouts, we need to make sure the background isn’t under copyright. You can do this easily right in our editor. Once you search for a background, click on one to see what it will look like in the preview. You will see the background and you will also see the link to the site the background came from in the “About Me” preview so you can check to see if it’s ok to use that image. Here is an example of what it looks like when you are previewing a background image:

Where it says “background from Yahoo search result” is the link to the original site this background image came from. Click the link to visit that site. It will open in a new window, so you don’t have to worry about losing your place in the editor. I told you it was easy!
If you have any questions about it, checkout the help section at the bottom of Coolchaser.com. We want you to have an awesome layout, that’s why we are here!

Switch to comma delimited tags
May 21, 2008
We started off using space as a delimiter for tags(a.k.a. categories, keywords, labels). For instance, if you tag your clip “Bob Dylan songs”. It would appear as three separate tags: Bob, Dylan, and songs. If you want to choose a phrase as a tag, you wi have to trick the system by putting a hyphen between the words (e.g. Bob-Dylan-Songs), camelizing (e.g. BobDylanSongs), or something like that. Either way, it is kind of unnatural and not good for exploring by tags.
We are switching over to comma delimited tags. Using the above example, you can tag it as “Bob Dylan songs, songs, music”. This will create three separate tags: Bob Dylan songs, songs, and music. You can use as many tags as you like. Hope it will make your life easier.
Happy clipping & tagging!
How to Use a Small Tiled Background Image
May 16, 2008
*UPDATE* You can now tile a small image in the editor to see what it will look like before you put it on your profile! (thanks Chao!) You can still watch my video to see how to use the options in the editor to make a small background image tile.
We have added a few new things you can do with Coolchaser. One of them is now you can use a small background image and tile it. The image has to be less than 200px by 200px for it to work. You will still see it all stretched out in the editor, but it will be the normal size once you put it on your profile. I thought this may be confusing since you can’t see what it will look like in the editor. So, I made a video to show you how I made a layout using this type of background.
I sound like a big nerd, but you’ll get the idea!
Big thanks to http://screencast-o-matic.com for making this video possible.

Pretty pink rose by Ashley
Can’t have the flower sent to your mom on time (uh-oh)? Well, in the meantime, send your mom a bouquet of pink roses by putting this on your page! Such a pretty theme with great use of graphics!

If you want something more different, this theme is for you! This is a more urban and chic theme for stylish moms! A very unique way of using black and white, I love it!

Another excellent theme that warms your heart, you can’t see it in this thumbnail, but it has such a sweet message on the network graphic too!

As usual, I couldn’t introduce all the other great Mother’s Day themes, but thanks to all of the talented people for sharing these beautiful themes!
Clipclip new features!
April 29, 2008
It’s been a while since we had any updates on ClipClip, it’s not that we have forgotten about our loyal users - we were just a little too busy with other projects. But good news guys! We have our super engineer Weiwen working on ClipClip again and she has added some awesome new features!
The features are:
1. empower users to remove spam comments from their clips
2. empower group founders to remove spam comments from their groups
3. ask users to flag clips that aren’t belong to the group
That’s right, now you can remove or flag all those spams that were totally unrelated to your group.
For example, I created a group called “Clipclip tips” hoping people will share tips on how they use Clipclip back in Dec 13 2006. As of today, April 29, 2008, it had 37 spams out of 43 clips!! I asked people NOT to clip any spammy clips in the group but that didn’t stop the spammers at all
Well, it took some time to remove all those damn spams but now I have my group back in control!
So those who were worried about creating a group, now you can have control over the contents so hope you create some interesting and useful groups to store your clips with your friends!
Happy clipping!
How to Create a Partial See-Through Myspace Layout
April 25, 2008
I love those Myspace Layouts where you can see the background through all the tables! I’m going to show you how to do this and make the perfect layout! If you are not sure what I mean here are two great examples of how to do this the right way:
NOW :: Here is how to make your own and make it look awesome!!
First: you have to create a layout in our Layout Editor.
Second: Choose how see through you want it using “Other Options”.
Third: You have to make sure a few things. Like, make sure you can read the text. If you can’t read the text, then try picking a different theme that will contrast with your background. As a general rule pick a theme with dark text if you have a light colored background. Or pick a theme with light text if you have a dark background. *UPDATE* If you have a MAC and are using Firefox, make sure you have the latest version of Firefox in order for your layout to display correctly!
EXAMPLES:
(This example is using Classic theme by KIKKI)

This next one is with “none” selected.

BAD EXAMPLE:

I hope this helps you make the best Myspace Layouts!!
Ask questions or show off your skills in our forum!

More new stuff!! We added a comment section to everyone’s Coolchaser profile! Now when you visit someone’s profile you can tell them what you think of their layouts!
You will see the comment section like this:
Image Example
You can click “Leave a Comment” at the to of the last comment to add your own.
When you are on your “home page” where you see your layout history, you will see on the top right side the number of comments and votes you have!
Image Example
Sounds like fun right! If you see a layout you love, you should click on the creators profile link under the image and let them know in a comment!
